1) clutch.

2) the weather / general meteorological behaviour in cape town the past few days.
amazing sunsets. huge giant cloud banks oozing over the mountain / hills and covering the cbd in misty bits.*
skyscrapers peeking out through clouds doth rock.
if any of the two million pictures i took over the past few days come out nicely, i’ll post a link.

* it was awesome. clouds were smooping over lion’s back and bits of the rump (oo-er) while we were there. it reminded me a lot of the weather project. there, people hit the floor, on their backs, to stare at the mirrors on the ceiling. this evening, people were climbing on picnic tables trying to peek over the rolling in clouds to get a peak at the sunset.
the single (narrow) road leading up to the best viewing spot was packed with cars pulled over at random points, hazards blinking, inhabitants jumped out and stood staring at cool cloudage, going “duuuuude.”
this is what the end of the world will be like. it’ll be pretty. and we’ll all stand around staring because it looks so nice.

the human jean project tuesday night at tokara was a wonderful, spiffy, shiny, happy, tasty, orangey, cheniny, photoy, carroty, pretty, lovely thing.

wishing them lots of good things and happiness and stuff like that.
and thanks! :)

pictures may follow.

my left foots

i like living here.
my feet like the (less cold) weather here.
i spend most of my day either in flip-flop type things or (brace yourself) barefoot.

this jumped to the front of my brain the other day, and for some reason this footfree and fancyloose shoe situation pleases me greatly.
it gives me a warm glowy feeling.
in my toes.

but wait, there’s more

after our 9-5ish wine routing, we trundled back to cape town and rushed around like mad people for about two hours getting various last minute things sorted for jean and waynne, who can like to be getting married on tuesday. friday night was the hen/stag/monkey bashes for the two.

rocked up very tired, but felt strangely perked up after a few beers. hmm.
waynne was very smiley happy and guarded his fireman’s helmet very carefully.
then drank a rather large quantity of beer from it.
also, the man can knock back tequilas like a mexican who knocks back tequila like a dude who knocks back lots of tequilas a lot. wow.

after everyone was ‘rather jolly’ we oozed over to la med beachside bar place and surprised wean & jaynne by meeting up with the other sex half of the par-tay.
they both smiled even more. it was great :) .
hats off to jim and parfait for organisational skills to the max, yo.

bit of bad luck, though. car battery died as we were taking j&w and jim home.
eep! good work simon for helping us out at 2am.

(later) this morning: new battery in car, italians in shop buying loads of stuff (mainly silkenware).

wining, whining, driving and drinking

our top story today: me in shock passed multiple choice learner’s license quiz thing (and can now drive a car with a proper driver in it). woo!*
day after that, we spent driving around wine tasting. it was great. got lots of great, cheap vino.

some odd bits of the two days off.
thought car was acting funny. took it to a car doctor, gave it a quick touchy feely drivey, seemed fine. was fine.
booked swish riverside wine farm lovely b&b thing.
wasn’t on map, no-one answered phone, ending up driving back to testing centre town (swellendam) and staying there. had a nice night in a local pub chatting and supping. got phoned by b&b people at 9 p.m. asking where we were. !.

now, who needs a lift somewhere?

____________

* - only just passed, though! oop. pass marks in the three sections: 22, 23, 6. my marks: 22, 23, 8. eep! close call, eh?

brief news from the front

Sunday, March 12th, 2006

- since we’ve scored this 150 hours for R150 (about thirteen squids) a month droobie, interwebbing has been more pleasant. and a russian boatload of mongoosii cheaper.
good stuff.
so, i (meaning the ickle pc whirring away on its own overnight) have downloaded (without needing to hack into any mainframes or garner, by sleight of mouse or hand, any encryption codes) a whole monkey stackola of music. few hundred megs worth. over dial up.
woo, but sheesh.

- today me and p went for a three and some hour walk.
walk from house to uct. walk from uct to rhodes mem. then walk to the block house. then reverse it.
very good, fit feeling making, very very windy, shiny.

- we’ve been able to keep up our average of breaking one glass a day for the past week - go team us! :)
we really need to buy some more glasses.

- found a cool new toy the other day. a package about 120MB big of apache, mysql and php that all talk to each other (out the box. unzip, click go - it works. happy making :) ). now i can play with codey things on my pc, without putting them on t’interweb.

- life good.
had a moment the other day sitting at home when i just had to stop and grin like a loon (more than usual) at how much better my life is here than in london.
woo yay cape town! :)

simple food for sick folk

thai style rice soup.

a cup of rice.
two knuckles of water.
stir fry some meat, chuck it in.

simple, eh?

then, make it interesting by adding three types of garlic, three types of chilli and generous dollops of fish sauce.
this made me feel much better.
