Bricks! Trees! Fuckloads of dust!

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

The council and the local City Improvement peeps have got their shit together (yay!) and are redoing the crappy pavement in front of the row of shops that Teh Shop is on.

Grotty tarmac is being replaced by terracotta and grey bricks, with a couple of spots for trees thrown in.
And, in a shock move, they’re actually going through it quite quickly.
Only took them a day to do the bit in front of Teh Shop.
It looks lovely.
Once they’ve finished the whole lot I’ll snap a pic.

Unfortunately, the cutting of bricks to fit meant that I came back to the shop today to find a thick layer of brick dust on anything 30cm or less above pavement level. Hmm.
Thankfully none of it got inside the shop (yay to closing doors), just the mini-stoep and along the walls.

Everything tastes a bit gritty.

so,

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

it’s been a quiet week or so.
HA!

Sax on the streets on V-day, plus raw fish.
As you may have seen elsewhere, me and AHS went off shooting students (a mix of cross-dress and under-dress(-ing(k)*)).
Awesome fun, will definitely do it again next year.

Successfully avoided Valentine’s day yuk (and yaks (and yams)) by having take away sushi.
Tasty, very.

How much beef would a beefchuck chuck if the fire was flippin’ hot?

Went to Jeremiah’s for flamey chuck** as a pre birthday bash for the Parfait.
Was lovely.

Biffing of days

Tried extra hard to be extra nice (and not my usual orrible self) to Parfait on her Bday last week.
Got her a collection of rectangular presents.
Some of which involved Neil Gaiman (but not the wrestling thereof).

We went out to Tokara for posh nosh.
Food was, as usual, awesome. Exploding Tastebuds (.com) .
Unfortunately, prices have gone up a fair bit (from already pretty high) and the staff were a bit daft.
And ever so slightly patronising. Although that may have also been a feature of the daftness.

Upcoming pool party warning: this Saturday at our place.
Usual drill: bring booze and snackables; we’ll provide more of both.

Ooh, get you!

Friday mid-afternoon we trotted off to Slanghoek for a weekend of camping with Jo’s company.
Was very cool.
We had a luxury tent that was basically a chalet, but with canvas walls instead of brick.
Awesome views - the place is at the bottom of long but shallow-ish valley.
Got to play with my new camera some more.
Bucketloads of wine and food and fun.
Very relaxing.

Cat Drama aka Grumpy Pussy aka Feline Frolics

Managed to call in The Doc and The Evil Landlord at short notice to feed and drug cats over the weekend (see above) - thanks guys!
Took ChuChu (sometimes called Meep) and Puppy (sometimes called Sproing) to the vet to get their slightly overdue shots.
Puppy’s having trouble with his legs, so the vet gave us some antibiotics which were mostly successfully administered.
Took Puppy back again yesterday. Vet kept him for the day to stick drains in his chest (for an abscess that had appeared) and to X-ray his legs. Went back in the evening to pick up Puppy. Apparently he’s fine, but we’ve got some more drugs for him. Woo.

Sitting waiting to pick up Puppy and overhearing a conversation about dog food renewed my interest in buying more domain names.
Sadly, lactatingbitches.com is already taken.

Worky work work

Crazy busy with work for Jo’s company.
Off to see them twice next week for two training sessions.
Teaching the new staff how to use Excel and how to use the stuff I made for the department.
Ho hum.
At least it keeps me off the streets.

busy!

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

no, really.

Yesterday was one of those, for me, classic Cape Town days.
Day packed full, mostly of cool stuff.

Went to Parfait’s offices in TV for the day, worked a lot, battled with clients a bit*.
Popped home for a bit, chilled.
Went to see a house in Obs**, was okay. Ish.
Quick sushi at Sushi Zone - tasty!
Back off to Durbanville to see Amanda’s photos in an exhibition.***
Down to Willowbridge to have nummy pizza and wine with fellow exhib attendees kyk and embryo.****

Today: stressing over work.

* - do not get me started. I will rant a lot. A lot a lot.
** - although our current Landlords are now saying that they might not be selling it after all. They’re having a “serious talk” to each other about it over the weekend, then they’ll let us know. I think I want to stay, if they don’t sell. It will give us a chance to save up some more cash and be better prepared to actually buy our own place.
*** - I was in it. In a photo. Me.
**** - Lovely stuff.

some quick reviews

Tenacious D and The Pick of Destiny.
Comedy, Jack Black, rock n fucking roll road trip, lots of cock jokes, doesn’t take itself seriously at all, very silly, very funny, go see it (a bit drunk).

Balls of Fury
Unfeasibly bad ping pong flick, supposedly a comedy, only a few LOL moments, avoid at all costs despite one or two interesting cast members and kinda cool old skool kung fu sets.

Fahrenheit on XBox
Interesting concept - take control of character just after they’ve gone trancey and killed someone and play switches between them and the cops investigating the crime, some slight control over storyline (but not as much as advertised), slightly annoying controls (not entirely intuitive and a bit gloopy), overly lengthy “action” sequences, cool story that gets freaky and mystic as the game progresses.

Psychonauts on PS2
(still playing)
Absolutely ace platformer, the first game in that has had me crying with laughter, written by Tim Schafer of Monkey Island / Day of the Tentacle / Grim Fandango fame, massive fun, all about psychics and brains and running and jumping Play it!

chuckleworthy typo of the day

Last month I was moistly working on Word report templates.

Clearly this excites me.
