I got asked to do some corporate headshots for a web site.
It was quite fun actually. Not so much the photo part, but the chatting and messing around part.

(have been talking about videogames a lot the past few days, especially those of retro styling. This made me think of Jet Set Willy. I wonder what other 80s games make for NSFW search terms…?)

Last Friday I finished the biggest chunk of my biggest project on the go at the moment. I’m now waiting for feedback from the client.
It is as though a giant (php-, html-, css-shaped) weight has been lifted.
And it’s made me a little bit manic.
I keep interrupting people (including myself!) mid-sentence.
I am, however, being quite productive wrt personal, fun, projects. My notebook has been sitting there looking sad for a number of weeks, but it’s glowy now from the speed of the scribbling and page-turning that it’s being subjected to now.

I’m looking forward to the (very) long weekend and doing lots of fun stuff and reading lots and – squirrel!

Had a lovely weekend away to Knysna with The Andrews (Local and Vocal, as I dubbed them, for the purposes of the trip) and The Dominating Spousii.
Bit too stressed out now and have work piled too high to write much, but it was great to get away for a couple of days (went off Friday morning, came back Sunday afternoon).
Spent lots of time in forests and gardens and things, and was very, very, relaxed.
Had a very fun drive up, too. Two cars, six people, lots of promiscuous passenger swapping.
Annoyed that I have to be back at work, but really looking forward to me and Parfles both finishing our big projects and taking more time off.
Grump!

Long Weekendery

Had a fantastic long weekend, despite not doing all the things I wanted to.

Unfortunately, I spent all of Thursday on the couch, crashing with some kind of mini-flu.
We went for a quick walk along the Clifton beaches in the morning. It made my head spin, so *thunk* on the couch it was.

The rest of the week and end was full of great stuff: toddling around Kalk Bay and having brunch / lunch (Sirocco, the blue and white bit, makes a mean Long Island Iced Tea, and great food); watching Up in 3D at Canal Walk (fantastic movie. haven’t laughed so much in ages. “Squirrel!”); dinner at the Jewel Tavern (best Chinese food in CT, despite moving from scummy docks location to quite swanky location in town); wedding reception wotsit at Wild Fig (cool to see lots of people that I don’t see very often); lamb shanks by Sveno (huge, tasty, legs. ahem.); trip to the flea market (low on stalls and food due to weather, but german sausage lady and spring roll lady were still there – phew!).

Spent a lot of yesterday catching up on emails and things, and also organising dinners and theatre trips and stuff.
Crazybusysocial rating for this week: mentalist.
For next week: nutjob.
For the week after: bzzt (off to Cederberg for a week).

On top of all this, I’ve taken on a project, medium size, that’s got a two week deadline.
If you see me, expect me to look wild-eyed and loopcrunchable.

Some facts.

I like listening to music while I work. I do not find it distracting. I find it helpful in making me Do Stuff TM.
I do not like wearing headphones. I don’t like having stuff on my head. I don’t like being closed off from the sounds of the real world.
I’m at the TV office today, where I can’t reasonably use the ghetto-blaster-boombox that I have sitting on my desk.

A consequence:

To Do: To Do list

In an attempt to sort my days out a bit, I’m playing with various ways of To Do listing.
Since I’m doing a couple of different jobs at once I need to keep some kind of record of what’s happening and when.

I had a look at a couple of web To Do wotsits and a play with the Lightning Add-on for Thunderbird over the weekend, and I’ve come to a conclusion.
I like paper.
I like writing stuff down (and I like crossing it out when it’s finished!).
So, I’m splitting my To Do stuff into today, this week, later and spreading them over my diary and my sketchbook. I seem to be carrying both with me most of the time, so this is good.

I have a vague plan to make my own diary, maybe for next year, that has a better day-per-page layout than my current one, and lots of note-making pages at the back for listy making.
To do this week (oh ho): research layout stuff for diarising.

Also over the weekend: finally finished changing Shop site to Not Shop Anymore site.
A little bit quick and dirty, but it will definitely do for now.
It’s been hanging around my head since the shop closed, and it feels great to have actually done it now.
I had webber’s block about it.
Now I’m feeling inspired and stuff again.

Routine

Ho hum.
While I’m enjoying this working from home thing, I’m struggling to settle.
I feel like my days are a bit too sliced up and in pieces.

I’m sort of half on holiday all the time.
I want to take some actual time off, a proper unplug, but it’s not quite feasible.
So instead I take slices of the day off as I trot along.

On the woo side, I will be getting a proper holiday soon – a few of us are off to Grahamstown for the festival, which I am predicting will be awesome.
Not so much the festival itself (although I expect awesome of that too), but my experience of it. I plan to be all creative with drawings and photos and things while I’m there. This will be tempered slightly by the legendary COLD. And possibly also by the vast amount of eating and drinking I plan to be doing.
