boxing, without any pugilists

So, the movers came on Friday. They were very good.

Fast, friendly, intelligent.

Picked them up via a recommendation from H of H&R.

So now the house has all our stuff in it.

L to R: study, lounge, dining room.

We may rearrange some of this… :-D

Things we can’t do in the house right now include: shower (inside, anyway) / bath; wash clothes; cook food.

We can: refridgerate stuff (in the entrance hall at the moment); sleep (bed is in); wear clothes (we unpacked into the cupboards).

Since the can’ts are fairly substantinal, we are kindly being allowed to crash at Casa Evil (thanks EL! thanks Doc!) for the week while the builder bods make it a house of can.

On Monday morning, I’m seeing the letting agents at the old house to the do the final-inspection-give-us-our-fucking-deposit-back thing. We shall see how that goes…

Parfait is at the old house right now, fixing bits of the walls. Tomorrow we go there and paint.

Sploosh!

aaaaaand we’re back

Yay!

Main boss builder dude back from holiday in Thailand (we are Teh Jealous).

I went by yesterday morning and met with him and his number two (no giggling at the back!) and the boss people of the tilers.

MBB agreed that the tiling was rubbish and agreed to rip it off, buy us new tiles, and get new people in (who know what the fuck they’re doing (with glass mosaic tiles)).

Huzzah!

All this is, of course, not at all complicated by the following:

  • the wooden bits of the floor need to be done (and left for a few days);
  • the kitchen and bathroom floors need to be done;
  • lots of tiny fixy-uppy bits need to done;
  • the movers are coming on Friday.

FRIDAY.

Gah!

Still, the house is looking fuckin’ ace.

:-)

And it was going so well…

Well.
Well.
Well, it’s still going okay, but we’re reaching the final stages.
And little annoying things keep cropping up.

The big boss has been on holiday for the last week or so (we knew this was going to happen, but our need was great) and his second in command is not a patch on him.

In general, the place is looking ace and they’ve done a good job.
We have, however, hit one particularly annoying snag.
In the industry they use special terminology for it: fucking shit tilers.
I may have to post some close up pics of the tiling.
Then you shall know our pain.
Basically the quality of work is rubbish and it’s looking like, when big boss returns next week, they’re going to rip all the tiles off and get someone who knows what they’re doing to put them on.
Which will be schweet.

Although…
we’ve given notice on our current house and must be out by the end of the month.
Gah!

Meh.
Me and parfles both got very stressed out by this yesterday.
But, we got home, hit the g&t’s, played a bit of Warioware and sports on the Wii, did some things that I won’t post here, then cooked a rocking Thai meal for the usual suspects plus Friendly Psychologist and Internet Romance. Awesomeness.

The house will be fine in the end, but I’m ready for it be finished now.
Now.
NOW!

hmm.

more photos to follow after the weekend.
it’s getting there…
:-)
soon there shall be Housewarming Teh First (the “Check Out Our Insides” party).
But first there shall be moving.

And trying to get the deposit back for our current place.
I’m expecting this to be a struggle, despite that fact that we’ve looked after the place and are going to make sure it’s in tip top condition when we go.
We’re leased until the end of the month, but we’re going to move out before then and give ourselves a week or so to fix up anything that needs the fixing.

insides: bathroom (now with sink); dining room (now with wood); entrance hall / lounge (now with more wood and still with green glow.
